Sisal carpet is a renewable material made from the fibres of the agave plant, also known as agave sisalana (hence the name). Agave is a desert plant with long, spiny leaves like a yucca or aloe plant. The durable fibres that support those leaves are extracted and woven into carpets and rugs to make sisal.

Regular vacuuming with a strong brush-suction is all that is needed for daily care of sisal and seagrass carpets. The beater-type cleaner is not as effective due to the weave. The strong suction of the vacuum pulls out the fine dirt which has accumulated between the fibres.
